The contract will grant Wanda the highest level of sponsorship rights, which includes the next four FIFA World Cups. As part of their agreement, Wanda will have rights to all FIFA competitions and corporate activities up to and including the 2030 World Cup.

The value of the top-tier partnership was not disclosed but is likely to exceed hundreds of millions of dollars.

Wanda Group Chairman Wang Jianlin said he hopes its cooperation with FIFA will enhance football culture in China.

"We are highly motivated to promote football across the country and to inspire a new generation of youngsters,” he said. “The Chinese government is committed to this development and as a company we strongly support these efforts.”

Though this might be Wanda’s biggest deal, the group has been building up its sporting portfolio. In January 2015, Wanda purchased 20% of the Spanish La Liga club Atletico Madrid.
